Sediment filters are used to remove dirt, sand, grit and turbidity from your water source. Water treated in community/municipal water systems generally leaves the treatment facility sediment free. The infrastructure delivering your water can shed sediment from build up of scale and or rust in the water piping or sediment that gets in the delivery infrastructure during repair, maintenance and additions to the system. This sediment can be removed before entering your home with a whole house filter system or in a two stage drinking water system.
Sediment filters are of three general styles: Wound (string) filters; Polypropylene filters and Pleated Filters. Polypropylene sediment filters are the most popular in drinking water and RO systems, ranging from 1 micron to 50 microns. Whole house filters can be anyone of the three types depending the type of sediment generally found in your water. With most community/municipal systems the String wound or polypropylene filters are most popular. Call if you need help selecting the filter that best meets you specific needs, 888-949-8883.
