Replacement carbon filters for drinking water systems come in three basic types: pleated carbon filters which work to remove sediment and remove the odor and taste of chlorine; GAC filters that are used strictly to improve taste and odor; or carbon block filters to remove chlorine oder, improve taste, remove cysts, THM's (trihalomethanes) and VOC's (volitile organic chemicals) and special carbon block filters that remove lead and other harmful contaminants.
